Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.
Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an better serve.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.
The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
